In Oregon, there are three levels of mastery that an electrician can have. The first is an apprentice. An apprentice is somebody that is starting out and working under a trainer with more experience in order to learn the trade and the basics of electrical work. A journeyman electrician is the next level. A journeyman must complete an approved apprenticeship program in Oregon or have 8000 hours of work experience along with a minimum of 576 hours of classroom training. A General Supervising Electrician (also known as a Master Electrician) has an additional 8000 hours of experience as a journeyman and must complete a comprehensive exam covering the electrical code in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.”
